Nevada Las Vegas West Mission Presidency

With the creation of the Nevada Reno Mission, President Doug Rands was released from the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission presidency due to the fact that he lives in Reno.  President Gary Webb has been called to serve as second counselor to President Black with President Jim Andersen continuing to serve as first counselor.

The Fourth of July and ZLC

We celebrated the Fourth of July with a Zone Leader Council!

Once again, we have a number of new Zone Leaders and a new Assistant.

We welcome the Mesquite Zone - July 1, 2012

With the creation of the Nevada Reno Mission also came boundary changes for the Las Vegas West Mission and the Las Vegas Mission.   

 Three stakes from the Nevada Las Vegas Mission have been added to our mission: the Logandale, Mesquite, and Panaca stakes. This past week we had the opportunity to go to Logandale and meet the

 Hodges,a senior couple who work on the Delamar Livestock Ranch,  and the 14 Elders that were transferred from the Nevada Las Vegas Mission to the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission. Right now all 16 of them are serving in the Mesquite Zone.  We are happy to welcome these missionaries to our mission and look forward to working with them!

The Nevada Reno Mission

Today has been a historical day.

 As of Sunday, July 1, 2012  there is  a

Nevada Reno Mission.

President Black and I, along with President and Sister Neider of the Nevada Las Vegas Mission,

 went up north to welcome President and Sister Hermansen to Reno and to pass the baton on to them. There are 73 missionaries from the Las Vegas West Mission and 14 from the Las Vegas Mission that have been called to serve in the Reno Mission.
We are happy to see the missionary work move forward in the northern part of the state of Nevada  and are excited for those missionaries who will be serving under their direction.
After spending only a few hours with them we love President and Sister Hermansen and know that the elders and sisters in the mission will love them also.

David Nephi Hermansen, 55, and Cheryl Berrett Hermansen, eight children, Nevada Reno Mission; Highland 6th Ward, Pocatello Idaho Highland Stake. Brother Hermansen serves as the president of a young single adult stake and is a former counselor in a stake presidency, stake clerk, high councilor, bishop, Sunday School teacher and missionary in the Texas Dallas Mission. CFO, Varsity Contractors, Inc. Born in Murray, Utah, to Donald N and Helen Augusta Hermansen.
Sister Hermansen serves as a counselor in a stake young single adult Relief Society presidency and is a former counselor in a Young Women presidency, Primary worker, Cub Scout leader, teacher improvement instructor and institute instructor. Born in Murray, Utah, to Golden Kimball and Constance Berrett.

Train the New Missionary and the Trainer Meeting - June

A few days after the new missionaries have arrived and have had a chance to settle in and have a few missionary experiences, they along with their companions, come together to meet with President Black and the assistants to review what they are studying during their personal and companion study time. During the first 12 weeks of being in the mission field the new missionaires and their trainers have an outline of things to study and to learn, there are also DVD's to view and they spend time doing role-plays. This meeting helps them to understand the importance of following the plan and to answer questions that may have come to mind as they begin their service as missionaries.

Transfers...June 25, 2012

This is a monumental transfer. It is the first transfer where there has not been a transfer van transporting missionaries from the north to the south or from the south to the north. All transferring took place within the north area and within the south area in preparation for the mission division.   There is work to be done in every area of the mission .

Once again...a marvelous work and a wonder has taken place with the transfer and transfer process!

This group of missionaries going home is the group of missioinaries that we met at the MTC when we were were at the New Mission Presidents Seminar as our mission began.  This is the first group to be with us for their entire mission. They are 'our' missionaries!

 It is always bittersweet for us as we tell the missionaries good-bye at the airport. We are telling our family good-bye.  But we look forward to keeping in touch with them and hearing about  their new adventures!
