Specialized Training for the new missionaries and their trainers.

They all came together again and we talked about how things were
going, shared feelings, shared experiences, asked questions, watched some
training DVD's, gave encouragement and now everyone is ready
to go and get to work!

Mission Tour

This past week the mission had an incredible experience.
Elder Larry Echo Hawk, of the First Quorum of the Seventy, and his wife, Sister Terry
Echo Hawk,  came for a mission tour of the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission.
Once every year a General Authority and his wife are assigned to tour the mission to instruct and train the missionaries and to lift and strenghten the mission.
Elder and Sister EchoHawk shared their conversion stories and blessed each of us with their testimonies and training.

Zion's Youth Symphony & Chorus

Zion's Youth Symphony & Chorus performed two concerts at
The Smith Center of Performing Art on Sunday, Ocotber 11.
The missionaries of the Las Vegas Zone were asked to help out
by ushering. It was a great missionary opportunity for members
to invite friends and family to learn by music and narration a little bit about
church history. The program was entitled Saints and Pioneers.
  It was incredible.

Zone Training Meeting

We attended the Tule Springs Zone Training Meeting this morning.
Elder Salinas and Elder Reyes did a great job teaching about the
importance of study and also the importance of doing role plays
during companion study.

Waiting for their Visa's

Every so often we get a call from the Missionary Department wanting to know if
we would be willing to have missionaries come to our mission temporarily while
they are waiting to receive their visa's.  This morning we had three missionaries
come who are waiting to go to missions in Mexico.  We love having them come
and are always sad to see them go when their visa's finally do come.  We
welcome them and hope they enjoy their service in
the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission.

New Missionaries and their Trainers

The Friday before the new missionaries arrive their trainers
come together for training and to receive the materials to begin
The First 12 Week Infield Training Program.
The program has a training schedule that will include study from Preach My Gospel, watching DVDs that have been provided, and applying the training model through role playing; to explain, demonstrate, practice, evaluate and repractice.
Being a trainer is a big responsibility. He or she can have
a profound and lasting influence of a new missionary's attitude, habits, and
ability to fulfill his or her purpose.
Meetings are held for the trainer before the new missionary comes to the
mission to teach how to apply the program.
The Friday after the missionaries arrive in the mission, both the trainer and the new
missionary, all come together to talk about how the program is going and to
be trained together.

Every once in a while missionaries will come back to the mission to visit
the members and those they baptized while serving here.  Sometimes they
are also able to come back for a baptism of someone they were working with
before they left or to attend a sealing in the temple of those they worked with
while here. We love it when they take a few minutes to stop in and visit.

Happy Halloween!

On October 31st we brought the mission together for
a Halloween Activity.  This is the first time that the entire mission
has been able to be together all at one time
It was a fun afternoon.  We had a talent show with
many of our missionaries displaying their talents....
singing, piano, guitar, dance, yo-yo, juggling,
skits, violin....it was a great program.
After the program dinner was served.
What a fun time to be together and to be able to renew
friendships and see former companions that the missionaries
hadn't seen for a long time.

Transfers ... October 29, 2012

On the day of transfers all the companionship's that were involved in changes met at one of the churches at 5:00 p.m.  There was a short meeting held where the new missionaries were introduced and were told who their companions would be. Every one loaded their belongings and headed off to their new areas and were ready to get back to work....to make this the best transfer ever!

Leaving Missionaries

Again, it is time to say good-bye to missionaries as they leave to go home.
There are only two elders leaving this transfer.  Elder Stanley and Elder Cunningham
were only in our mission for a short time.  They were transferred into the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission the first of July when there was a change of boundaries between the missions.
We have loved having them here and wish them well as they return home and to new adventures.

New Missionaries

This past week we welcomed eight new missionaries to our mission. We are happy to have them here and are excited for the great spirit of enthusiasm that they bring with them. We wish them success as they meet their new companions, adjust to their new areas and learn what missionary work is all about!
